Restoration 101

Restoration is all about bringing damaged or deteriorated spaces back to a safe and functional state—whether it’s due to fire, water, mold, or long-term wear and tear. It involves everything from assessing the extent of the damage and removing compromised materials to repairing structures and restoring finishes. At its core, restoration is about rebuilding with care and attention to detail, while preserving the character and integrity of the original space. Think of this as your “Restoration 101”—a friendly introduction to the steps, services, and peace of mind that come with a well-executed recovery process.

Why Restorations Matters

Restoration isn’t just about fixing damage—it’s about safeguarding the integrity, safety, and value of your property. When fire, water, mold, or time compromise your space, timely and professional restoration prevents further deterioration, saves costs in the long run, and brings peace of mind. At Crescent, we restore more than structures—we help clients regain stability and comfort, knowing their homes or businesses are sound, secure, and built to last.

Restorations - Where To Start

 Initial Assessment

Identify the type and extent of damage—fire, water, mold, structural, or age-related—and determine safety risks.

Containment & Stabilization

Prevent further damage by securing the site, stopping water intrusion, isolating mold, or bracing compromised structures.

Damage Documentation

Record detailed photos, notes, and reports for insurance purposes and to guide the restoration plan.

Debris & Material Removal

Remove any unsalvageable materials—such as drywall, flooring, or insulation—and clear the space for repairs.

Structural & System Repairs

Address framing, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC systems as needed to restore safety and function.

Surface Restoration

Repair or replace walls, flooring, ceilings, and fixtures to bring the space back to (or better than) its original state.

Final Clean-Up & Inspection

Ensure cleanliness, air quality, and quality control—verifying everything is safe, sound, and ready to use.

Renovation 101

Renovation is all about reimagining and improving an existing space—whether it’s to modernize outdated features, enhance functionality, or better reflect your personal style. It can involve anything from minor cosmetic updates to full interior or exterior transformations. A successful renovation starts with a vision and thoughtful planning, followed by demolition, structural adjustments if needed, and finishing touches like flooring, cabinetry, and fixtures. At its heart, renovation is about creating a space that feels fresh, functional, and tailored to your needs.

Why Renovations Matters

Renovations go beyond cosmetic upgrades—they're an investment in how you live, work, and feel in a space. Whether improving functionality, increasing efficiency, or simply refreshing outdated features, thoughtful renovations can significantly boost comfort and property value. At Crescent, we help clients reimagine their spaces with purpose and precision—crafting environments that support their vision while standing the test of time.

Renovations - Where To Start

Vision & Goals

Clarify the purpose of your renovation—whether it’s for improved function, updated aesthetics, added value, or all three.

Site Assessment & Budget Planning

Design & Permits

Collaborate on layouts, materials, and finishes; secure necessary permits to comply with local building codes.

Structural & System Upgrades

If needed, update or adjust framing, plumbing, electrical, or HVAC to meet current standards and accommodate the new layout.

Install new flooring, cabinetry, lighting, paint, and fixtures to complete the transformation and align with your design goals.

Final Inspection & Clean-Up

Ensure quality standards are met, perform walkthroughs, and leave the space clean, complete, and ready to enjoy.

Waterproofing 101

Waterproofing your basement is one of the most crucial steps to protect your home from water damage, mold, and structural issues. Whether you are dealing with minor seepage or frequent flooding, waterproofing offers both a safeguard and peace of mind. In this guide, we will walk you through the basic requirements for interior and exterior waterproofing, as well as the steps involved in each process. Consider this your "Waterproofing 101" — everything you need to know to understand the process of protecting your basement.

Why Waterproofing Matters

A basement that isn’t properly waterproofed can lead to a range of issues, from mold growth and air quality problems to foundation damage and costly repairs. When water seeps into a basement, it creates a damp environment ideal for mold and mildew, which can affect indoor air quality and lead to health risks. Additionally, water in the foundation can weaken the structure of your home over time. Waterproofing prevents these issues by creating a barrier between your basement and external moisture.

Exterior Waterproofing

Excavation Around the Foundation

Soil is carefully dug out around the home to expose the foundation walls and allow access for waterproofing.

Cleaning and Prepping the Foundation Walls

Foundation surfaces are thoroughly cleaned to ensure proper adhesion for waterproofing materials.

Applying a Waterproofing Membrane

A flexible, waterproof membrane is applied to seal the foundation; a drainage board may be added for extra protection.

Installing a Drainage System

A perforated pipe surrounded by gravel is laid at the foundation base to direct groundwater safely away from the home.

Backfilling and Compaction

The area is backfilled with soil and compacted, ensuring proper drainage away from the foundation.

Interior Waterproofing

Interior waterproofing manages moisture that enters through foundation walls or floors by redirecting it away from living areas. It’s done from the inside when exterior access is limited or to address issues like cracks, seepage, or humidity.

Crack Injection and Sealing

Foundation cracks are sealed using expanding epoxy or polyurethane to stop seepage.

Applying a Vapor Barrier

A protective barrier is installed on interior walls to reduce moisture penetration.

Installing a Drainage System

A perimeter drain is installed beneath the basement floor to channel water to a sump pump.

Sump Pump Installation

A sump pump is set in a pit to remove collected water from the basement, preventing flooding.
